This is a beautiful doll, with a feeling of quality to her. I do not own any American girl dolls though I seen and played with them at friends houses, but we have some our generation and glitter girls dolls, and she seems to be somewhere in between the quality level of our generation and American girl. I really like Sam’s beautiful red hair, sparkling blue eyes which are a very pale but shimmering blue, pale pink lips and attractive face sculpt. She looks like a very appealing, sweet and age-appropriate little girl. You can see in the picture that she has a soft body from chest to behind, and the rest is made of harder plastic so that the legs, arms and head can all move. The head is on a ball joint, which seems to make her move so much more naturally than the our generation dolls, which just turn side to side. Her clothes seem a little more plain than some of the other dolls in this line, with the simple unadorned jeans shorts, beige top which is soft but looks like a simple thermal top, and undecorated scarf. However, the bunny backpack really makes the outfit and the whole presentation, and the boots are glorious, soft and velvety with the side zipper and lovely buckles and a beautiful scrunch. What I do appreciate about the clothing is that we have an hour generation boy doll who is 18 inches, and whenever the girl and the boy dolls can share clothing, that makes things more fun in our family. So I really appreciate that everything that Sam is wearing, could easily be worn by our boy doll Gabe. It makes her an extra friendly friend. I think that they ought to change the box color and the presentation somewhat because the pale pink box with the old-fashioned design on it looks more suitable to an old-school baby doll rather than something meant for a 6 to 12-year-old girl. Definitely the pink packaging makes it seem less like a unisex gift that a boy would also be happy to have, which in my house my son definitely would be happy to have a girl doll to play with his boy doll, so keep in mind if you are gifting that you may want to unbox the doll, put on her accessories, and find a method of presentation different from the box she comes in, or just line the box or something. That said, most little girls will not notice any deficit in the packaging once they see the absolutely glorious little friend inside. I’ve been really impressed with everything I have from adora brand, we have some baby dolls that my kids just love, and these dolls are no exception. They are beautifully and carefully designed and put together, look to be of high quality and feel very easy to love.
