This Baby Alive doll is interactive, entertaining and educational for young children exploring their world and understanding changes to theirs and others bodies. Recent events have peaked preschool-aged children’s curiosity in terms of colds and illness and this toy has been comforting to my three-year-old daughter. Lately, she has been pretending to be a doctor while her dolls have colds; this interactive doll has taken her creative play and real-world observations and made them into something she can explore and understand. This doll interacts as a regular baby doll for a while; babbling, blinking and giggling. After being left for a bit without feeding, her nose and forehead will light up red. Her eyes will not be as open as before and she will start sneezing. There is not an urgency and her interactions while in this state are not scary; she just looks a bit relaxed and sneezes from time to time. Once the provided hanky is put to her nose, the red light turns off as she “blows” her nose. She then makes a relaxed noise. You then put the thermometer up to her forehead and it makes a sound. Once you give her the pretend medicine (the provided spoon or bottle), the red on her forehead goes away and she interacts again like a healthy baby. This toy set also comes with a make-believe computer, with two sheets that act like an x-ray when put inside the image slot. The button on the left side makes the diagnosis picture spin and land on a symptom. This also includes a stethoscope end to “listen” to the doll’s heartbeat. All of the accessories included are unique “doctor kit” items, unlike the repeat items included in other kits. They all interact with the doll, giving different responses based on if she is healthy or ill. This doll is the “patient” doll every young child interested in healthcare and/or wellness would adore. There is no urgency in the doll’s illness and the ability to get better through love and care help young children feel more secure. My daughter has loved playing doctor with this doll and I have enjoyed her happiness with herself when she makes the doll “feel better”. This doll is a fantastic gift for young children, I would definitely recommend it.
