Description Seventh graders in the Waldorf school have already experienced some basic physics concepts in sixth grade. Seventh grade will take that introduction to a deeper level where the student will focus more on certain concepts in Physics. The focus this year will be mostly on magnetism and electricity. We will do a study of machines and how the properties of physics power those machines. We will also study magnetism and electricity as well as influential scientists. We will study the following concepts during this lesson block: Part One: Magnetism and Electricity: We will make a simple battery and perform other experiments in our deeper exploration of magnetism and electricity. Part Two: The “Six Basic Machines” – The wheel, the axel, the pulley, the inclined plane, motor, and lever. The study of the lever will include a comparison to the human arm (this will tie in our physics studies with our Renaissance art and physiology studies) Part Three: Biographies of Influential Physicists
